Key Dental Dates for Children
Infant/Toddler (6 months-1 year)
- Child’s first baby tooth begins to grow in
- Teething signs: discomfort, increase in drooling, excessive chewing, fever, red-flushed cheeks, altered sleeping patters
- First dental consultation should be scheduled to prepare parents to support their child’s dental needs
Toddler/Preschooler Development (2-3 years)
- All baby teeth (20 in total) should be erupted
- First dental visit should be scheduled
- There is very little change in teeth until between ages 5 and 7
School Age Development (6-7 years)
- First adult teeth begin to grow in
- You will see permanent (adult) back molars and permanent front incisors
- It should be considered whether to seal the back molars
Always make sure that your child attends dental cleanings (check-ups) regularly in order to monitor growth progress and restore or strengthen any teeth that have erupted.
